It's NOT a flood!
I am writing with a couple of days delay. The last few hours were a little hectic.
As you can imagine, no, I haven't been visited by Poseidon. 🐠
The following morning (18.04) the waters were relatively alright. The stream went back to its, and was relatively low. I thought the worst had passed, and it seemed like it. I could catch my breath.
At 9:30 AM, on the other hand, it started rain cats and dogs. A lot of rain, in a very short period of time and all of a sudden. It lasted no less than two hours. Within one hour from the start the stream went back to being dangerous and it was even closer to the house than the day before. Back to paranoia! 😔 On the top of that, I miraculously spotted that our porch started to have water in it: the drain in front of it was filled with leaves and sand, for a while, and the cover was glued to the ground with concrete. The water started to increase but, luckily, it was not high enough to pass the windows and enter the house. I pointed out that to the painter, to know whether he had something to remove the covers. He started using the hammer and managed to remove one. We started cleaning the drain, and water began to flow towards the river. We carried out until the whole drain was in good conditions, under the copious rain. After that, we removed and dried the water from the porch. What an interesting morning!
Thank you magic painter! Had you not been there, we would have been flooded. No doubt. 🙇
I gave him one of my t-shirts and shared the pizza with him. I think it is the least I could do to thank him (the owner will pay him for the job): he could have easily said that it was not his job. Really a special person.
The rain fell intensively until 3 PM. The stream grew more and more, and I was more and more concerned. Luckily, after 3 PM the rain diminished. It still rained but way less, so the stream managed, by evening, to go back to decent levels.
During the night, though, yet another copious rainfall for a couple of hours took place. That woke me up, sleeping under the roof, unlike my flat mates. My girlfriend included, who was peacefully sleeping next to me. 😴As far as I was concerned, I was afraid that the river could not go low enough and eventually overflow. It did not. I managed to fall asleep. The rest of the night was way calmer.
The day after I woke up, and went to check the stream. It felt good. I felt serene and peaceful when I saw the stream to an even lower level. No rain was forecasted for the coming couple of days so I felt happy.
Let's see how it will be when the rain comes back.
